Grading Policy and Process

GRADING POLICY

With so many teams it is important that team selections run smoothly and that everyone understands the process. Grading is the process of establishing the number and composition of Randwick Rugby Netball Club (RRNC) teams to compete in the Randwick Netball Association (RNA) competition and which division of competition to request for each team. Grading is influenced by the number and ages of players registered with RRNC. Grading will aim to achieve teams that have a balanced group of players in playing positions and ability levels.

  • Players aged 7, 8 and 9 years playing in the modified, non-competitve competition are not graded. Requests to play with friends will be accommodated where possible, depending on overall registrations in that age group. Requests relating to team placement of modified players need to be in writing at registration stating reasons and will be considered by the committee.
  • All Junior players aged 10 years - 15 years, Intermediates and Seniors new to our club must attend the practical grading day. This is a compulsory requirement of our club. Failure to attend may result in disappointment, as positions in 2012 teams will not be held for absent players without prior warning. If a player is unable to attend practical grading, the player or parent/guardian must notify the Registrar prior to grading. Placement into a team for this player will be based upon paper grading.

  • Requests for Playing with friends/Playing up an age - Juniors - Please bear in mind that netball is a graded, competitive sport after the age of 10 with representative opportunities. Stronger players always enjoy the challenge of harder, faster competition and do not develop to their potential if graded lower to be kept with a friend, even if playing in an older age group. We encourage our players to accept their team and have fun making some new friends, and once the season starts children usually settle in and enjoy playing netball. The support of parents is greatly encouraged for this to occur smoothly. Special requests for grading need to be in writing on each player's registration form stating reasons and will be considered by the committee providing they are of a similar ability. Requests to play in a higher age group will be considered taking into account the player's ability, experience and potential as well as the makeup and number of players/teams in age groups. Any player selected for a 1st Division team will be expected to play in that team. The Grading Selectors decision is final.

  •

 GRADING PROCESS

  • Coach's Evaluation

At the end of the season, each coach provides a report of each player's positions played, ability, attendance at training and games, attitude etc.

  •  Individual Player Assessments

During the season, selectors may observe player's skill levels during games or receive reports from other sources e.g. Representative coaches

  •  Paper Grading

Prior to practical grading, selectors assess the above reports and place players into teams for the practical grading session.

  •  Practical Grading

In forming teams, the selectors take into consideration the Coaches' reports, independent assessment reports, paper grading and play observed at practical grading, while keeping in mind that a netball team requires a balance of height, agility and ball skills, as well as defences, centre court and shooters.
